A highly
motivated and experienced composer and conductor.
Through a hands on, practical approach combined with
education and thorough training he has developed the
skills required to convert concepts into musical
ideas which suitably underpin the drama being
portrayed and allow him to guide and shape the music
whether as its creator or its
director.

Music to Film
Listening to music
examples is one thing, but a film composer has to
write to film, supporting the drama on screen,
adding to the nuances created by the director and
bringing something of their own knowledge and
skill to the project. For examples of my

Musical Theatre
Nick’s interest and
subsequent training in film composing stemmed
directly from his experience writing for Musical
Theatre and, indeed, Concert Hall.
Dramatic content, while differently presented in these mediums, is still dramatic content, and calls for the same careful crafting as those of a film or television score, just in a different presentation. Through experience and success in writing for the differing constraints of each of these forms Nick has gained a larger perspective from which to draw while he is creating the perfect score to compliment and enhance your project. Concert Hall
For Nick, the
importance of writing for the Concert Hall is
huge, allowing him the very different challenge
of engaging and moving an audience without the
benefit of picture. Following the example of many
great composers such as William Walton, Ralph
Vaugh-Williams, Dimitri Shostakovitch, Philip
Glass and John Williams (to name but a few), Nick
made a clear decision not to leave the Concert
Hall behind entirely, deciding instead that this
discipline could only improve and strengthen his
compositional skills. For examples of his concert
works, click

Conducting
Nick is a fully
trained and experienced orchestral conductor and
choral director, not only for live performances,
but also in studio sessions, being fully versed
in all the techniques used in the synchronisation
of live music to film. Conducting also provides
Nick with the link to live performance which he
feels is essential to keep his compositional
skills well honed.

About me...
My musical career
started with piano lessons at the age of four
which was added to by clarinet a few years later.
After winning a music scholarship to Ampleforth
College and completing A’levels I furthered my
studies at Surrey University, Roehampton
Institute where I gained a BA Hons in Music with
Business Studies. Here I specialised in composing
under Michael Burnett and conducting (both
orchestral and choral) under Richard
Stangroom. More...
